Place information is compiled from open sources and is not independently verified. Details such as access, ownership, opening conditions and exact location can be wrong or out of date. Always check official sources and current conditions before you travel, and treat everything here as a starting point rather than the last word.

Many of these places are fragile, and many stand on private land. Follow the applicable access rights and countryside code, respect private property, keep to safe ground, and leave sites as you found them. You are responsible for your own safety and conduct on any visit. The Codex is not liable for loss, injury or damage arising from a visit or from reliance on anything published here.

Place imagery comes from Wikimedia Commons and Geograph under the licences stated on each page: mostly CC BY-SA, which is share-alike. Any reuse is governed by that licence and its attribution requirement; the Codex cannot grant rights beyond them.
The writing here is our own. It is assembled from open records: Wikipedia among them, credited in each place's sources, but the prose on these pages was written for the Codex rather than copied. Where a source is quoted, it is marked as a quotation.
Our page design, the arrangement of the corpus and our own writing are ours. If you want to reuse a substantial part of the Codex itself, ask us: the answer is usually yes. Full detail of every source and licence is on licensing and attribution.
